Tear Catcher

The lachrymatory is an ancient vessel used for the safekeeping of tears. The vessel was sometimes worn around the neck on a chain as a talisman. Tears are typically shamed and make others uneasy. I don’t mind a tear or big sob. You got to feel it to heal it and sometimes that makes tears, it’s how the body expresses itself.

I made the hand blown glass vessels in Murano and the hand carved Carrara marble in Pietrasanta, Italy.  The marble boxes were carved to resemble tissue boxes. A couple of the glass vessels are crimson red and its a reference to Bob Dylan’s rendition of ‘Blood In My Eyes’, written by Mississippi Sheiks.
