Birds of North America

The Birds of North America is reinterpretation of Eliot Porter’s project that he began in the early 1950’s. Porter’s photographs of birds are recognized as seminal works in nature photography and early colour photography, although these photographs were painstakingly constructed by Porter. In spite of the mediation, they represent the genre of wild life photography that is typically from an objective point of view and photographed by an invisible witness. The BNA are a reassessment of nature photography that expose mediation and question the physical and psychological relationship of humanity to nature - redefining a genre, which has been primarily outside the photographic experience.
